Harm woke early Christmas morning still holding Mac in his arms. He smiled to himself. It was the best Christmas morning he’d had in a while. The last few years had been a little lonely around the holidays. No one to share them with; no one to wake up next to. Yes, he still had his mother and he always saw Mac at some point during the day, but it just wasn’t the same.

She stirred, turned in his arms and lay her head on his chest. Looking at her, he just wanted to eradicate the soreness she felt. He knew all that would disappear soon, though.

He heard a soft sigh and looked at her. She slowly opened her eyes and smiled a soft little smile at him.

“Merry Christmas,” he told her, kissing her cheek.

“Merry Christmas, Harm.”

He just kept looking at her and smiling.

“What?” she asked, a soft little smile on her face.

“Nothing.”

“I know that look, Harm. There’s something you want to say so say it,” she laughed.

“I just want you to know how much I love you,” he said, reaching behind him into the open briefcase sitting on the nightstand. “When you came into my life, I found someone who I knew would always be there, someone who would love me unconditionally. No matter what happens, I want you to know how much you mean to me. As long as you are a part of my life, I will count myself as blessed.” Opening up the box he had retrieved from his briefcase, he asked, “Sarah MacKenzie, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

As the tears streamed down her face, she nodded and softly whispered, “Yes. Harm, of course I will marry you. I love you.”

And with that, he slipped the sparkling diamond onto her finger. She wrapped her arms around his neck as his lips met hers in a tender kiss.
