Sitting beside Harm on the living room sofa, Mac lay her head on his shoulder as he took her hand in his and pressed it to his heart.

Squeezing her hand, he had never felt so lucky in his life. “What did I do to deserve you?” he asked.

“I could ask the same thing.”

Letting go of her hand, he lay down on the sofa and pulled her into his arms. Looking into his eyes, she could see the love he had for her shining there.

“So how long have you had this engagement ring?” she asked, admiring the sparkling diamond on her finger.

He smiled. “Shortly after Webb made his return.”

She nodded. “Why then?”

“That whole experience was the last straw. Here was a man who had you, but threw it all away. It was at that moment that I knew I would ask you to be my wife when the right moment presented itself.”

“And that was this morning?”

“Last night when I got the call that you’d been in an accident, I was so afraid I was going to lose you. Then this morning as I watched you sleeping I realized that I was tired of waiting for the right moment. I was tired of hiding my love for you. I want the world to know how much I love you.”

“Oh, Harm,” she said, tears sliding down her face. Reaching up, she pulled his head down to her and kissed him tenderly.

“I love you,” she whispered.

“And I love you, Mac,” he said, feeling content for the first time in a long time.
