you catch my eye
from across the room
and my heart smiles

in years past
we both used to hate
these holiday parties

we hated how
we’d be forced
to pretend to be happy

now though
all that has changed
because it’s no longer an act

I smile as you
make your way towards me
and wrap your arms around me

turning in your arms
you softly press your lips to mine
and I smile
