I only put myself on the line for you
Even though you made me call you Mulder
The root beer would soon turn to ice tea

A madman took you away
Only to return your comatose body
But you had the strength of my beliefs

A man who thought his will was strong
Urged you to pull the trigger
But your will was stronger

Inoperable, you said
I felt my heart drop to my knees
But I refused to give up

Though you knew it would change everything
You stood beside me as I tried to bring her home
And when she died, you tried to soothe my pain

Under a starry sky I showed you the fundamentals
Hips before hands, everyday nagging concerns melting away
As your smile lit up the sky

A chance meeting with an old flame
While you were out chasing crop circles
Made me treasure the choices that brought me to you

You hold our baby boy in your arms
I look at you and am surrounded
By the miracle of your love

Lying beside you now I think I have failed
But you tell me “it’s why I’d do it all over again”
Maybe there is hope
